Re: Open House

On behalf of Director Shank, I would like to invite everyone to attend
this Saturday's Laboratory Open House, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  A full
schedule of activities, including lectures, demonstrations, facility
and laboratory tours, and children's programs will be offered
throughout the day. Music and food will be featured in the cafeteria
lawn area, and a large welcome tent will highlight scientific programs
on display at the Lab. Employees who wish to use limited parking
spaces on the site should plan to arrive early; free off-site parking
and shuttle buses will be available at the following University lots
-- the Genetics Building at the corner of Oxford and Berkeley Way; the
lower Hearst lot at Hearst and Scenic; the upper Hearst lot at Hearst
and La Loma; and the Foothill lot off Cyclotron Road. Lots and bus
stops will be prominently marked with directional signs. The buses
will pick up visitors at those lots, and the Berkeley BART station,
every seven minutes beginning at about 9:45.

Programs with full schedules of activities will be distributed on the
buses and will be available at the welcome tent. Come early: the
Featured Speaker Series begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Building 50
Auditorium, and the first Science Discovery Theatre Show, "Quakes and
Shakes," begins at 10:20 a.m. in the Building 66 Auditorium.

In order to allow for site preparation and exhibit set-up on Friday,
the following parking locations will be closed all day -- the
cafeteria lot, the Building 50 upper lot, about 20 spaces on the south
side of the Bay View lot across from Building 55, and four spaces in
front of Building 66. We apologize for the inconvenience and encourage
that car-pooling and public transportation be utilized when possible.
